I've always felt that we are so much more than we believe we are, we met with Sara Gsilva, illustrator

We entered Sara Gsilva's studio and found pure inspiration. In this interview, we learned how inner work and trust can build build a sustainable artistic career. 

When and why did you start working as an illustrator?

I started illustrating about 10 years ago. After finishing my Fashion Design degree, I realized that drawing and creating had always been a part of me since childhood. So I decided to reconnect with that passion.

My first illustrations were digital and very different from the work I create today. 

Over the years, I explored many different styles until I found the artistic language that truly represents me.

I believe I was drawn to illustration because I've always had a deep desire to understand ourselves as human beings. As a child, I was endlessly curious about everything around me. I saw, and still see, the world as a magical place full of mystery. 

I've always felt that we are so much more than we believe we are.

Through art, I've been able to explore the unknown, bringing together spirituality and psychology while discovering myself along the way.

Where do you find inspiration?

I find inspiration in the beauty of everyday life. 

Nature and people are my greatest sources of inspiration.

I also enjoy browsing Pinterest and discovering beautiful artworks and photographs that spark new ideas. 

But above all, my greatest inspiration comes from looking inward, connecting with God, following my intuition, and allowing curiosity to guide me.

What has been your most memorable moment as an illustrator up to now?

About a year ago, I started a YouTube channel where I share intuitive readings using my own Oracle cards, which I created over many years as an illustrator.

Seeing that my work inspires and helps people from all over the world has been one of the most meaningful experiences of my career. I have never felt more fulfilled as both an artist and a person.

It motivates me to continue creating art that helps others reconnect with their creativity, intuition, and their own path toward healing and abundance.

What is your main next challenge?

At the moment, I'm allowing things to unfold naturally. I'm currently preparing the launch of my Tarot and Oracle decks, which is something I've dreamed about for a long time.

I'm also developing digital products that I hope will help even more people on their personal journeys.

Fashion continues to inspire me as well. One of my dreams is to create clothing that helps people feel more connected to themselves and to the life they want to create.

I have many ideas, but I've learned that there's no need to rush. I truly believe that everything unfolds one step at a time.

How would you define your path both as an artist and as an entrepreneur?

That's a difficult question because I believe everyone's journey is unique.

My own path has been filled with challenges, growth, and many ups and downs. Along the way, I had to heal many parts of myself before realizing that every struggle was preparing me for where I am today.

I've learned that it's important not to be afraid of being seen, and to create from a place of love rather than fear or the desire for recognition. Through my YouTube channel, I've experienced this more clearly than ever.

We all have dreams. Taking one small step toward them every day has become my philosophy. 

Live in the present, create from where you are, and trust that everything will unfold in its own time.

What advice would you give to someone willing to start a full-time career as an illustrator?

If you feel called to do it, simply start.

At the same time, ask yourself why you want to become an illustrator. Is it because you genuinely love creating, or because the profession seems appealing?

This path comes with many ups and downs. It requires courage—to share your work, to be vulnerable, to accept criticism, and to continue creating even when you don't know where the journey will lead.

My biggest advice is to draw every day, even if it's only for a short time. Small, consistent steps make all the difference.

Sharing your work consistently is just as important. Learning how to present and market your art has also been essential in my own journey. Today, social media offers an incredible opportunity to share your work with the world, but consistency is what truly makes the difference.
