Tulipane Design, a social jewellery business. We met with Edit Lakatos, its founder
Transforming her own path into helping others, today we discuss with Edit, founder of Tulipane Design, a jewellery brand enganged in preventing and supporting victims of domestic violence.
When and why did you create Tulipane Design?
I have been making jewellery since I was 6 years old.
In 2020, I decided to take my jewellery hobby further and start a social business with a purpose of preventing domestic violence. So Tulipane Design was born. We offer ethnic jewellery, and organise creative workshops.
In that regard, 1 euro per jewel/workshop participation goes to the Center of Prevention of Domestic Violence in Belgium.
What has been the brand’s biggest achievement so far?
In 2023, we created the Day of Well-being and Creativity that creates a unique experience for women: workshops, talks, movements, art and dance. This event already brought back 300 women and 30 artists together. The next edition takes place on 6 March 2027. At the event, women of all ages, from all walks of life can meet, and form a community around the same principles.
What is your main challenge for the next stage of the brand?
For me the biggest challenge was always marketing. With social media everything became super fast and it is difficult to keep up with the pace and be present on several online and offline platforms.
How would you describe your journey as an entrepreneur?
There are ups and downs.
Looking for local markets to sell jewels and check out collaboration opportunities is a constant work.
I also had to see friends closing their boutiques where I had my workshops. So I had to adapt and now I organise my workshops in my home atelier.
What advice would you give to someone who wants to start their own jewelry brand?
Make sure you understand the legal environment and financial opportunities for small businesses in the Brussels region.
I realised later on that I could have asked for local subsidies when starting my business. In the end, I was still eligible for renewing my website so it is worth it to check for new programmes and go for open days of hub.brussels.
Where can we find you (website, Instagram, TikTok, etc.)?
On Instagram, the website, and Facebook!
Thank you so much, Edit for contributing to a better Belgium. You are an inspiration to us.
