Hoy entrevistamos a Celius Art, una artista que nos ha conquistado el corazón y nos ha hecho creer de nuevo, como tantas otras mujeres, en el poder de creer en nosotros mismos y en nuestro arte. No os perdáis la entrevista a continuación (¡primero en inglés y luego en español!).

When and why did you start painting? 

I don’t remember the exact age, but since I can remember. I was the type of child who loved painting, drawing; at school, at home, anywhere, and at any time. I thought it was something childish and I did not give importance to it. I kept growing and kept painting; it was something very personal, intimate, barely shared around me. But something changed: by the end of 2019, I became very interested in abstract art. Something got my attention and I bought some paintings and without noticing, I started creating. That was something I loved, so I wanted to try new materials and new techniques. At the beginning of 2020, just before the pandemic, I discovered the resin and it was by then that I discovered that I was born for this. The quarantine gave me a lot of time, so I could immerse myself in my creativity and learn in few months what I would have normally learned in years, all by myself. Painting was my moment of freedom and I could not let that feeling fade off.

What do you like the most and the least of this vocation? 

What I like most, with no doubt, is to ask people what they see in my paintings. The different interpretations that people make seem magic to me. In a way, I manage to connect with them and that is incredible.

What I dislike the most is that I am allergic to resin; I have to be very cautious during the creation process because if not, it can be dangerous for me.

When and why did you decide to start selling your paintings? 

In August 2020 I started showing my artworks on Instagram, I wanted to share what I was creating with the world. Purchases came very quickly, people liked what I was doing and I had paintings available.

What has been your best moment as an entrepreneur until now? 

I have several good moments, I launched my project less than a year ago and a lot of things have happened since then. Launching my website, meet other entrepreneurs, connecting with other people, etc.

But if I should choose only one moment, I’d say that would be the first purchase. The fact that someone trusted me and my creativity and the fact that s/he ordered a piece without having seen in person any of my pieces… I find it incredible, I have no words.  

What is your next objective/ challenge? 

I have it pretty clear, I’d love to exhibit my paintings somewhere in Barcelona; several people have asked me about it and I’d love to do it this year if the situation allows.

What ideas would you give to a person willing to start a project similar to yours?  

The most important: to leave all the fears behind and to launch it. I say it from my own experience. Before starting I was frightened about what people would say; it was horrible for me to think what people will think about me, to expose myself, but nothing that I pictured came into reality; the opposite, all the feedback I’ve gotten has been amazing. So, to allow her/himself to be free and to jump in.

¿A qué edad empezaste a pintar?

No recuerdo la edad, pero desde siempre, era la típica niña que le encantaba pintar y dibujar, en la escuela, en casa, en cualquier lugar y a cualquier hora. Pensaba que era algo de niñas por lo que no le di importancia. Iba creciendo y seguía pintando, era algo muy personal, muy íntimo, apenas lo compartía con nadie. Pero algo cambió, a finales del 2019 me empecé a interesar en el arte abstracto, algo me llamaba la atención por lo que compré algunas pinturas y sin saber, empecé a crear. Aquello me encantaba, por lo que quería probar nuevos materiales y nuevas técnicas. A principios del 2020, justo antes de la pandemia descubrí la resina y entonces fue cuando me di cuenta que había nacido para esto. El confinamiento me regaló mucho tiempo, por lo que me pude sumergir absolutamente en mi creatividad y en aprender en pocos meses lo que habría aprendido en años, de forma totalmente autodidacta. Pintar era mi momento de libertad y esa sensación no la podía dejar ir.  

¿Qué es lo que te gusta más y lo que menos de esta vocación?

Lo que más me gusta sin lugar a dudas, es preguntar a la gente qué es lo que ve en mis obras, la interpretación de cada persona me parece mágica. De alguna forma consigo conectar con ellos y es algo increíble.  

Lo que menos me gusta, es que soy alérgica a la resina, debo tener muchísimo cuidado en todo el proceso de creación, ya que si no me puede pasar factura. 

 ¿Cuándo decidiste empezar a vender tus cuadros?

En agosto del 2020, empecé a mostrar mis obras por Instagram, quería compartir con el mundo lo que estaba creando, las ventas vinieron enseguida ya que estaba gustando lo que hacía y tenía obras disponibles.  

¿Cuál ha sido tu mejor momento como emprendedora hasta ahora?

Tengo muchos momentos buenos, hace menos de un año que me lancé y me han pasado muchas cosas. Lanzar la página web, conocer a otros emprendedores, conectar con las personas, etc.   

Pero si tuviera que elegir solamente un momento diría, el primer encargo. Que alguien confiara en mi trabajo, en mi creatividad y me hiciera un encargo sin haber visto nunca una obra mía físicamente antes y solamente por fotos y videos, me parece algo brutal, no tengo palabras. 

¿Cuál es tu próximo objetivo o reto? 

Lo tengo muy claro, me encantaría poder exponer mis obras en algún lugar en Barcelona, varias personas me lo han preguntado y es algo que me encantaría hacer este año si la situación lo permite. 

¿Qué ideas le darías a una persona con la intención de lanzar un proyecto como el tuyo?

Lo más importante, que deje todos los miedos atrás y que se lance. Lo digo por experiencia propia, antes de empezar tenía un miedo horrible al qué dirán, me horrorizaba la idea de pensar que la gente iba a opinar sobre mí, estar expuesta, pero nada de lo que me imaginaba se cumplió, todo lo contrario, todo el feedback que he recibido hasta la fecha ha sido maravilloso. Por lo tanto, que se deje llevar y que se lance.
